It started with a cold floor and a pair of tired eyes.

In the winter of 2024, a scruffy terrier mix called Biscuit arrived at a rescue shelter in South London. He was underweight, nervous, and had never known a home. When we brought him through our front door for the first time, he didn't run to explore. He didn't sniff the furniture or chase the cat. He just stood there — trembling — looking for somewhere safe to lie down.

We grabbed an old cushion from the sofa and put it on the floor. Within seconds, Biscuit was curled up on it, exhaling the deepest breath we'd ever heard from a dog. That single moment — watching a frightened rescue finally feel safe enough to rest — changed everything.

That cushion wasn't good enough. Not for him. Not for any of them.
